Why Paintings Are Important In Feng Shui

We've spent more time in our homes in the past year than ever before. Whilst this experience has been challenging in innumerable ways, it has taught us all something of fundamental importance. The impact our surrounding environments have on our mental health and wellbeing has never been more evident. Now, more than ever, people are embracing the philosophy of Feng Shui into their homes.

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy centered around the idea that energy (chi) lives in all things. When it comes to Feng Shui at home, this is the practice of arranging the pieces in living spaces. This arrangement creates balance in the natural world. The aim of this is to harness and focus energy.

Good Feng Shui = good luck. Bad Feng Shui = bad luck.

What Actually Is A Feng Shui Painting?
One of the easiest ways to create harmony and positive chi around you, is to introduce Feng Shui artwork and paintings into the home.

Feng Shui paintings harness different energies via the images they depict and where they're positioned in the home. A regular painting might simply depict a pretty picture but a Feng Shui painting brings energy into the home through symbolic meaning and colour.

A painting of you and your family member's Chinese Zodiac hanging in your home is guaranteed to create good Feng Shui. (It's also a unique option instead of the traditional family portrait photo).

How Can Artwork Improve Feng Shui In The Home?
Different areas in the home harness the five Taoist elements - Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood. In Chinese Medicine, Fire represents the heart so therefore the living room is considered to be the ‘heart of the home’. The heart requires a warm colour palette so by adding artwork with reds, oranges and yellows to your living space not only stimulates conversation and activity but also brings energy and creativity.

Wood represents the liver and we use wood in the kitchen for the fire used to cook so the kitchen is considered to be ‘all things wood’. While sterile colours such as white and gray can give the cleanliness the kitchen needs, you can also add greens or artwork of plants to introduce the wood element.

When you feng shui your home with artwork, it’s as much about the placement of the Feng Shui paintings as it is about the pieces you choose. The simple act of placing something intentionally can cause a huge difference.

If you want to bring wealth and prosperity into your life, you need to position your artwork in the place where this happens. Koi fish are often used in Feng Shui paintings because it is believed that fish represent prosperity. By placing this painting above a desk in an office, you're encouraging this prosperous energy to manifest in the area where you make money.
